How to Summarize an Article?

可是學會寫Summary是很重要的，學會抓出新聞、電影、故事的重點，才有可能轉過來寫出有重點的內容；Summarize是有格式、方法的，我自己喜歡的方式是”6 sentence summary”，我從高中開始就是使用這個格式了。

Summary的注意事項：
(1) 客觀
(2) 簡潔
(3) 一般Summary是沒有特別要求結論的，但是如果原文的結尾有特殊意義的，就要記得抓下來。
(4) 避免重複整個句子

Summary的小技巧：
(1) 6W + H的原則 (問自己)
(2) 用自己的話 (不要copy原文) *關鍵字可以copy
(3) 注意順序
(4) 注意稱呼 (The writer / author or She / He……之類的)
(5) Main Idea很重要

6 sentence summary 的格式：
(1) Main Idea (我喜歡從這個部分開始，因為我覺得只要Main Idea對了，整個Summary的tone就對了。)
(2) Date , Numbers, Examples that support your main idea. (這個部分最簡單，反正抓出支持Main Idea的證據就好了。)
(3) Explain why Date , Numbers, Examples is important and why it supports the main idea.
(4) Use Date , Numbers, Examples that support main idea / hypothesis. (這個是第二個證據。)
(5) Explain why Date , Numbers, Examples is important and why it supports the main idea.
(6) 結論 (summarize the paragraph into one sentence)

這個是我自己熟悉的方式跟格式，網路上有很多種不一樣的撇步，沒有對或錯，不管哪種方法都要多多練習才是最重要的呢!!

小小推薦一下NewsELA，姊妹倆陸陸續續使用過好幾個新聞閱讀平台，有紙本的也有電子版的，每一種都有我非常喜歡的地方，這幾年會持續使用NewsELA的原因是…….
(1) 一個新聞有好幾種閱讀等級，姊妹倆可以閱讀同一篇新聞，這讓我在安排功課的時候節省非常多的時間。
(2) 它是非小說類的(Non-Fiction)，跟考試用的文章比較類似。
(3) 站內新聞雖然不是即時更新，但是對我來講速度是在我可以接受的範圍。
(4) 有提供唸出來的功能。(姊妹倆有時候會來回聽好幾次抓重點，我覺得可以讓眼睛休息很棒。)
(5) Text Set的功能很好用，我可以很快速的找到我需要的新聞。
(6) 幾乎所有的文章都有Quiz。(除非很新很新的文章才沒有)
(7) NewsELA是專門為學生設計的，所以不會有什麼阿里不達的內容或用字。
(8) 有西班牙文。
(9) 我大女兒很喜歡裡面的CA Distance Learning Collaborative Texts分類，尤其是八年級歷史跟Government。
(10) 可以列印出來。

我們除了單純閱讀之外，也利用NewsELA來練習Summarize 跟 O.R.I.D (Objective, Reflective, Interpretive, Decisional)呢!
